First-Ever Digital Japanese Film Festival 2020 Opens in India

~ Screening of 30 hand-picked Japanese films from 4and-13and December’20 without any fees~

NEW DELHI, December 7, 2020 /PRNewswire/ — The Japan Foundation New Delhi has announced the launch of the fourth edition of the Japanese Film Festival (JFF) 2020 in India the 4and December’20. The one-of-a-kind 10-day digital film festival will be held from 4 to 13 December’ 20. The long list of movies this year involves 30 of from Japan most acclaimed movies of varied formats and subjects across all categories, including Animation, Dramatic Feature, Romance, Thriller, Classic and Documentary. The first day of the festival kicked off with the screening of classic and contemporary films‘Key Of Life’, ‘The Flavor of Green Tea over Rice’ and ‘Project Dream – How to Build Mazinger Z’s Hanger’.

The fourth edition of the Japanese Film Festival is accessible to everyone across the country through virtual access and customers can enjoy the best of Japanese cinema from the safety of their homes. From the carefully curated list of films, three films will be screened every day and will be available for 24 hours on the festival’s watch page, https://watch.jff.jpf.go.jp/page/india/. Customers can enjoy unlimited access to multiple movies from the lineup without any subscription cost. Selected films will be screened in Japanese with English subtitles for the viewer’s convenience.

India is a large and growing market for Japanese artwork as there is a noticeable inclination and interest in Japanese culture among Indians. We closely mapped public demand and created a list accordingly. of 30 popular Japanese movies suitable for a wider audience catering to various age groups. The response so far has been overwhelming also from cities like HyderabadJaipur etc in addition to subways.

The 2020 Japanese Film Festival presents a diverse range of popular Japanese films like Sumikkogurashi: Good to be around, IG Animation Production: Tokyo Marble Chocolate, IG Short Animation Production: (Drawer Hobs), A night0.5mm, Ecotherapy Getaway Holidays, Our 30-Minute Sessions, Little Nights, Little Loves, Stolen Identity, Tremble at will, The Grand Passage, RAILWAYS, Café Funiculi Funicula and more.

Adding excitement to the 10-day Film Festival, the Japan Foundation New Delhi is organizing “Young Critics Competition”. The competition invites the participation of young primary and secondary school students to write critical responses to the animated films selected in the Festival’s program. Six winners will be declared by December 24, 2020 and will receive a Certificate of Excellence along with exclusive Japanese Film Festival gifts.
